After a longer than expected wait, the October 2014 Forbidden/Limited list is finally here! The changes, effective October 1, 2014, are as follows:

  • Forbidden: None.
  • Limited: Raigeki, Glow-Up Bulb, Soul Charge, Infernity Archfiend, Super Polymerization
  • Semi-Limited: Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Ceasefire, The Transmigration Prophecy
  • Unlimited: Magician of Faith, Formula Synchron, Coach Soldier Wolfbark, Reinforcement of the Army

The Fall list certainly continued its tradition of shaking up the game’s current state of affairs. However, one is left to wonder what exactly this means and what exactly is in store for the upcoming format. In order to get a better understanding, we asked some our members for their immediate insight on the F/L list:

Glow-Up Bulb will make Lonefire Blossom good again. Prepare to see more Plant action.

Rest in peace Infernity. Infernity Archfiend and Soul Charge limited should hopefully be the end of this deck.

Super Polymerization limited will weaken Shaddoll a little bit but it will be still one of the strongest deck in this format.

Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and Raigeki will punish overextension which I kind of like. Most decks didn’t run Dark Hole in the last format but Raigeki is too good to cut it in my opinion. It is Raigeki !!!

They bring back Fire Fist and Fire King with Coach Soldier Wolfbark but the question is always if it can keep up with the current 3 big decks: Shaddoll, Burning Abyss and Satellar knights. We will see.

Magician of Faith is super slow but it can get back Raigeki or Soul Charge now. We will see if it will be played or not.

Overall a lot of unexpected changes and the testing sessions for the YCS London will be more difficult than I thought.

Claudio Kirchmair, President

Raigeki: It’s the logical consequence of everyone dropping Dark Hole from their decks – why not unban Raigeki? If players decide to use it, games should end more quickly since it allows you to deal more damage easy. I think this was a good call by Konami.

Glow-Up Bulb: Tbh, I didn’t like plant formats that much, but Bulb was a nice tuner to be splashed in all kind of decks. Maybe Synchros will see more play again. At least, Armades, Keeper of Boundaries is even easier to make now.

Soul Charge: Although I was never a fan of that card, I guess it was necessary to make this change.

Infernity Archfiend: THANK YOU, KONAMI, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. THANK YOU!!!

Super Polymerization: Absolutely a good call. This card was crazy at 3.

Gorz the Emissary of Darkness: Nice, no one plays it, anyway. It lost almost all its power since its release.

Reinforcement of the Army: Satellarknight is like the worst deck ever, so it’s only fair to give them a little help. However, Satellarknight profits much more from the limitation of Super Polymerization.

The rest: Overdue.

All in all, nice list. As expected, they didn’t really touch Shaddoll and with Shaddoll existing, cards like Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Coach Soldier Wolfbark and Glow-Up Bulb are much less powerful than they used to be.

Peter Gross, VP Europe

Some things expected, some not. Soul Charge to 1 is great, I’m really happy about this. Super Polymerization to 1 is too severe of punishment I think. Destroying Infernity was expected, because it’s the Worlds deck.

Really unexpected are Glow-Up Bulb, Raigeki, Coach Soldier Wolfbark and Reinforcement of the Army.

Raigeki will help to OTK more and I think it will be a new staple. Bulb you can splashed in so many deck, I think Shaddoll will add it. Finally, you can use Formula Synchron more easily with Bulb. I think the rest will change much.

Really happy about Super Polymerization, really sad about Soul Charge.

As for Raigeki, it’s been about a decade since we’ve seen it, outside of Battle Pack. It is a lot less game breaking now than it was when roamed free and I’m not sold on its impact right now. The smart player always used Dark Hole as Raigeki anyway and no one played Dark Hole this past format. I suppose the caveat of drawing Dark Hole when you have a board doesn’t exist with Raigeki, but I don’t know if that will be the difference maker.

On the other hand, there is too much hype around this card and it’s another easily added out for decks that can’t deal with Leo, the Keeper of the Sacred Tree, ie. every deck not named Shaddoll. So, we will be seeing a lot of it in the coming months.

As for the other changes, Satellarknight will most certainly be adding a third Reinforcement of the Army and there are definite shenanigans in store with Glow-Up Bulb. However, I do not see the other changes making much impact on the current environment, especially with Qliphorts on the horizon.

Kyle Schrader, Chairman

Raigeki: Unexpected.

Coach Soldier Wolfbark: Well, Satellarknight Altair is at 3.

Reinforcement of the Army: Needed to push Satellars. Heroes don’t care, they have already 3 E – Emergency Call

Glow-Up Bulb: Shooting Quasar Dragon Support.

Magician of Faith: No one played it 1 or 2, will they play it at 3? Doubt it.

Formula Synchron: See Glow-Up Bulb.

Ceasefire: One chance against Soul Charge Synchro Spam from Shooting Quasar Dragon.

Glow-Up BulbGorz the Emissary of Darkness: In few months it will be at 3.

Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind: Like Lightsworns, Blackwings are making a slow comeback.

The Transmigration Prophecy: The restriction was to push Zombies, but Zombies are shit and this card is shit as well.

Mike Nguyen, Past-President (06-10)

Glow-Up Bulb is good, makes ready to rock decks ready to rock.

Raigeki ok, why not?

Let’s see, Soul Charge was clear(ly getting hit), Super Polymerization also.

Infernity Archfiend, I don’t know, sad for Rodrigo – maybe too severe.

Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness ok, but they forgot Gladiator Beast Bestiari.

Reinforcement of the Army to 3 is stupid.

Formula Synchron better Semi-Limited with Glow-Up Bulb, but let’s see.

Coach Soldier Wolfbark is a card i don’t know yet about, maybe Fire Fist and Fire King are strong again.

Umut Serin, Intern, Players

Raigeki: Nice change, it doesn’t hurt the meta ATM but can do it in the future with dark hole…it can be main but it’s not broken only 10% more than Dark Hole.

Glow-Up Bulb: The card has a lot of potential from all on banlist but it represents dated strategy. So, it’s not broken like in the past. Shaddoll maybe, maybe can play it but i don’t see an immediate broken use of it in others deck – only Level 8 Synchro has a good effects.

Soul Charge: Decks built around it die. Now, this card will become god, like every time when a strong card get limited.

Infernity Archfiend: Infernity definitely dies.

Super Polymerization: Biggest change of the banlist, with new fusions would be too strong at 3. Shaddoll is hurt by this change against Satellar and Burning Abyss and have to change something in build and playstyle. The Chaos version is probably going to gain more than other versions from this change.

Formula Synchron: Maybe it can find a use with Glow-Up Bulb, but its a dated strategy.

Coach Soldier Wolfbark: Fire Fist can become a good antimeta.

Reinforcement of the Army: Great change, with Poly to 1, Satella recover the -2 Soul Charge and can create decks like Nobleknights or new HERO for the future.

The rest are useless.
