Top Cut Meta Analysis

In the TCG last format, we were presented with a three deck format that carried over from the September 2011 list featuring Rabbit/Inzektor/Wind-Up. That format developed into Rabbit/Dragon/Inzektor, then into Rabbit/Dragon/Wind-Up. For Toronto, we were presented with a new format where the Forbidden/Limited list saw Dragon, Inzektor, and Wind-Up take huge hits, previously obsolete decks regain power cards, and Rabbit escape mostly unscathed. There was a lot of uncertaining heading into YCS Toronto, as there was no defined metagame. Judging by the metagame in the Top 32, it is safe to assume that either HERO will be the most dominant deck of the format or that HERO has replaced Gladiator Beasts as the “go-to” deck that players cling to in undefined metagames.

HERO, Wind-Up, Rabbit, Geargia, and Dark World all took up multiple slots in the playoff bracket and a lot of one-off decks were able to find success in the swiss metagame as well. Heading into YCS Guatemala, we are still looking at a loosing defined metagame, but the front runners of the format seem to have been developed.
