Unfairnity in Berlin

For the event my matchups where really great. If they don’t have the nuts hand I would be easily beating Fire Fist, Hieratic, and Mermail. I would have a hard matchup vs. Spellbook and Geargia do to their inherent card advantage and good back row cards. You can lose the mirror match if he starts and has the combo but there aren’t a lot Infernity players overall. You will beat more or less every kind of random deck which you will face with Infernity.

So after I arrived at the hotel at about 21:00, Claudio, Patrik and I decided to go out for a at a Berlin Bar with a German girl who was last year in Erasmus in my class and due that she lived in Spain and we spent some time together because of my German skills. After some drinks and having some fun until midnight, we bought one famous Kebab and went back to the hotel. I tried to work on my last 2 cards because I was unsure if I should main them or not and afterwards joined Claudio and Patrik to build a new Austrian Mermail deck because their testing results weren’t good on Friday.

In the morning we stood up, everyone took a shower and got something to eat and then we went to the venue which was just on the other site of the street. There we met up with all the other players from United Gosus and Claudio gave everyone their new amazing T-Shirts and Sweaters produced with the help of our new sponsor https://en.yugiohcardmarket.eu/. So after seeing everyone and having some discussion about tech cards and general strategy we went to play the event. Yuhu!

Round 1: Kevin Langenberg from Netherlands with Infernity (0-2)

Game 1: He knew that I was playing Infernity due to my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/TogoresAndCards and seeing some of my games on Dueling Network. He started and was also playing Infernity. He made the first turn combo and I just scooped to hide my deck. I also drew Archfiend Heiress which sucks -.-

Game 2: My first 5 cards look really good but the turn card is just another monster which prevents me to combo on the first turn. He just sets 5 set cards and passes. I summon Armageddon Knight, then activate Instant Fusion and try to summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight to blow up his field. But his Book of Moon stops me. Afterwards I try to Foolish Burial a Stygian Street Patrol, chain Mystical Space Typhoon and target one of his back row cards and then chain Full House to it but he has Compulsory Evacuation Device to return one of my level 4 monsters to my hand which just stops all my combo attempts. So I have to pass the turn with 1 or 0 back row and he  just combos with Infernity Necromancer and Infernity Launcher and I’m dead.

This is so cool. You play your first round, it’s already a mirror match and you lose 2-0. I say to myself that if I don’t face more mirror matchups then I will top easily but let’s see what happened next round.

Round 2: Stefan S. from Germany with Beasts (2-0)

Game 1: He activates Obedience Schooled and tries to summon 3 Beast-Type monsters from the deck and he doesn’t has enough targets. On the next turn he flips a Beast monster and special summon another from the deck and concedes afterwards because he realizes that he hasn’t sided back. Free win for me ;)

Game 2: He starts with just one back row and a set monster so I just use Dust Tornado in his end phase after an Armageddon Knight prepared everything for a possible next turn combo and he’s dead on my second turn.

Round 3: Stefan R. from Denmark with Fire Fist (2-1)

Game 1: That’s an easy pairing for me. I think that if you draw average and play good you will just win. He starts with Thunder King Rai-Oh and I don’t know what he plays at that moment. I just stall a lot of turns with a defense position Infernity Necromancer and when he decides to summon another monster I used Torrential Tribute to wipe the board. Now I could activate Reinforcement of the Army from my hand and combo for the win.

A little side note: I played 3 matches and every single time I lost the dice roll. That’s pretty sad if you are an Infernity player -.-

Game 2: I draw Archfiend Heiress in my opening hand and attack with her into his only back row which is a Dimensional Prison. After a long grind game in which I never drew another monsters apart from a single Reinforcement of the Army I just lose.

Game 3: I manage to make a turn 2 or 3  the Lavalval Chain into Infernity Necromancer + Infernity Archfiend and search one back row. He tries to make a play but I have also Book of Moon and can win the game on my next turn.

Round 4: Kenny D. from Germany with Mermail (2-1)

Game 1: He activated a Mermail Abyssmegalo or Mermail Abyssteus and I chain Vanity’s Emptiness and after a few turns where Emptiness prevents him from doing anything I just win.

Game 2: He has Maxx “C” when I have Armageddon Knight with Instant Fusion so I just end with Abyss Dweller because I can’t set up a Lavalval Chain play for the next turn without letting him draw 3 more cards. He then just special summons Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls from his hand and runs over my Dweller and I’m dead.

Game 3: I start with Armageddon Knight into Stygian Street Patrol which he removes with D.D. Crow. On the next turn I summon a second Armageddon Knight into a second Stygian Street Patrol but he has a second D.D. Crow. I have Infernity Launcher and summon Abyss Dweller backed up with Vanity’s Emptiness which locks him out of the game.

Round 5: Merlin Schumacher from Germany with Fire Kings (0-2)

Game 1: I play a long grind game and when I’m able to combo and he is on 6000 Lifepoints and with Fire King High Avatar Garunix coming back on his next standby phase turn. I go for the combo and make a big mistake. I end up with Lavalval Chain running over his Fire King Avatar Barong, a Leviair the Sea Dragon, a Stygian Street Patrol and an Infernity Archfiend with one Infernity search. There I should have just attacked and special summoned Gagaga Cowboy for game but I miscounted and thought that if I search Infernity Necromancer and summon another Lavalval Chain to detach and send Stygian Street Patrol to the graveyard and then summon my Infernity Necromancer and Infernity Archfiend then it would be enough game. But I was 400 Lifepoints short and he survived. On the next turn I negated his Garunix with Infernity Barrier but he activates Onslaught of the Fire Kings and I can’t recover from that.

Game 2: In drew 0 monsters for like 8-10 turns with a lot of back row removal and Instant Fusions so if I somehow would draw a level 4 monster then I can win. This never happened and I lost to his 1800 guy attacking me 5 times in a row. Hooray, I’m officially on the bubble now.

Round 6: Martin K. from Germany with Infernity (2-0)

Game 1: Another Infernity and he wins the dice roll. He goes into Dark Grepher and discards Archfiend Heiress to send Stygian Street Patrol and after some thinking he says that he wants to activate Archfiend Heiress‘s effect. I know that this is not possible and that this is an attempt to cheat. After he added the Infernity Archfiend to his hand I call for a Judge and explain him the issue. He says yes he can’t search and has to put back the card to the deck and nothing else will happen. I call him out on trying to cheat me because its obvious that this doesn’t work and if you have played the deck before then you have to know it. I appealed to the Head Judge and in the end my opponent received a Warning for that. I’m okay with that and suddenly realize that he’s not able to combo anymore because he doesn’t has his Infernity Archfiend. So on my turn I just summon Armageddon Knight with a huge smile and he realizes how fucked he is. After a long grind game I win because I played more defensive traps than he did.

Game 2: He starts but without the combo. He summons Lavalval Chain and passes and I summon Infernity Archfiend and suicide it into his Lavalval Chain. Then I stop his combo attempt on the next turn and on my turn I win with Infernity Necromancer.
