Sluis’ Thoughts on July 2014 List

On July 18, 2014 by Stephan Sluis

Hey guys, Stephan Sluis here and I am here to talk about the new ban list today.

Goyo Guardian
First off let’s talk about the only card that went from Forbidden to Limited: Goyo Guardian.

We all know there are not that many decks that can utilize this card efficiently in the current Meta – not to say it’s not strong. There is also the trouble of extra deck space, but we will see how much it’s going to be played in future events.

Geargiagear went from Unlimited to Limited. I really like this change because there will be no more Geargias having auto win by having 1 Geargiarmor and 1 Geargiagear turn 1, making the deck much less explosive.

Magician of Faith
Seems to me like they really want to see this card played. However, it was not being played when it was at 1 and I do not see a reason why it would be played now. It does not really synchronize with any deck other than Spellbooks but they do not really need it as they have infinite ways to recycle their spells.

Formula Synchron
I was always a fan of this card back when Plants were dominant. It going to 2 copies might spur some people to come up with a new Synchro deck idea. We will have to keep an eye out for that.

Reinforcement of the Army
This card opens up so many possibilities for decks and I do not know how to feel about this change until we are further into the Meta. Decks like Heroes and Infernity will benefit greatly from this change and if you are looking for some fun, you could even try Noble Knights.

Mirror Force and Dimensional Prison
Back when the game was much simpler and it used to rely on getting easy plus 1 by destroying monsters by battle, these cards were pretty good. However, now that the game has become so advanced, it is not good to be running too many static cards as you will be vulnerable to effect monsters like Black Rose Dragon and Evilswarm Exciton Knight. This is probably the reason why they thought it would not affect the game too much if they were at 3.

At the end of the day, nothing is certain and there can always be someone who breaks the meta with something unique no one expects.

This has been my opinion on the banned list and I hope to have given you enough information – see you at future events.
